In 1984 Civic Si was introduced as a hatchback version of the regular Civic model. A slight bulge in the hood clearly differentiated the modified model from the regular one.

The new engine put out a horsepower of 122 hp and it could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 8.9 seconds. The compact models at that point of time usually produced less than 100 hp, so Civic Si turned out to be quite a popular model.

In United States, a Civic S trim debuted in the year of 1984. It featured reclining rear seats and sport seats.

Later in the year of 1986, Si trim level got extended to Civic hatchback which offered the power and features of the earlier model but with 4 seats.

Second Generation (1988-1991)

During this period the model was mostly assembled in England, Japan, Ohio and Canada. The main features of the model included power sun roof, passenger door mirror, dash clock, sport seats and tachometer.

The newer 1.6 liter engine, which came mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, could now generate horsepower in the range of 110 hp to 158 hp.

The newer engine version of the second generation Si initiated a popular trend of engine swapping.

Third Generation (1992-1995)

The newer 1.6 litre DOHC non-VTEC engine could offer a horsepower of as much as 137 hp.

Fourth Generation (1999-2000)

With an enhanced 1.6 liter engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, Civic Si could now pump out a horsepower of around 160 hp. The model also became faster with a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds.

The model got modified with larger throttle body, enhanced intake manifold and a fully counterweighted crankshaft.

The fuel economy was one of the best in the segment with an offering of 27 mpg within city limits and 31 mpg on highways.

Like any other Civic model, even Civic Si sported double-wishbone suspension for the last time in this generation.

The newer improved 2.0 litre engine now came coupled with the latest 6-speed manual transmission. It could pump out a horsepower of around 190 hp to 200 hp. The sixth generation model was indeed the most powerful one till date.

In 2009 the model received a line up of noticeable changes. We saw a revamped front bumper and grill, fog lamps, USB MP3 player input jack and chrome trunk trim.

The 2010 Civic Si on the other hand did not see many changes.
